The second part of the diptych PERMANENT /see previous post/.

An attempt to reinterpret the fundamental figure of western culture. The idea is expressed mainly by combining the video portrait of a stone statue exemplifying crucifixed Christ with a song 'So hot' from a psychodelic rock group 'Spaceman 3'. A very meaningful symbol in context of Krakow, named 'a town of hundred churches', strongly catholic and conservative. Packed with historic monuments, many of which are medieval, offering this type of architecture that may get oppresive.

Apart from critisism I wanted the video to be transgressive and affirmative, 

to be a response from above for the first part of the diptych, a contrary to condemn, lamenting, infernal and ungodly Titans. 

It is a personal utterance to, a mirrored mind.

This is PERMANENT.

'Lament of the Atlantes' 3'51", 2012

THIS IS PERMANENT. It's an audio-video installation prepared for a show in Bunkier Sztuki. It is a result of "an experiment" carried out during workshops Space as an Experimental Space led by PhD Intermedia students at Krakow's Fine Art Academy. The basic idea was to create a relationship with aleatory space and its elements.

I decided to animate still architectural elements (and/or their images) by confronting them with sound. Permanent is a diptych, 'Lament of the Atlantes' is it's first part . I used weirdly exposed photographs of the concrete titanic figures, and did field recording of city ambients in their direct contiguity. I wanted those recordings to be a sort of an interview with the statues. I sampled and transformed them digitally in order to reinforce their narrative character and to stress the idea that time is always subjectively conceived. The Lament is in the same time a metaphor and a documentary.

ATLAS - in the classical European architectural tradition an atlas (also known as an atlant, or atlante or atlantid; plural atlantes) is a support sculpted in the form of a man, which may take the place of a column, a pier or a pilaster.Atlantes express extreme effort in their function, heads bent forward to support the weight of the structure above them across their shoulders, forearms often lifted to provide additional support. The term is the Latin plural of the name Atlas – the Titan who was forced to hold the sky on his shoulders for eternity.

FALLING with/for the ATLANTES

On Friday 20th of April 2012 at 6 pm. in Bunkier Sztuki there's an opening of an exhibition where you can find my latest work 'Permanent'. The exposition titled 'Space' was prepared during workshops 'Space as an Experimental Space' lasting from 16th-20th of April and led by PhD students from Krakow's Academy of Fine Arts. 
The process was quite interesting.

Participants of the workshop took part in a game, and had to:

1) allot a number depicting area of their actions /see the map

2) analise their domain focusing on defining elements;                              /Google street view 16.04.12 9:46 pm print screen/

3) find a way of interacting with chosen aspect of the city space 

4) define the new situation & 5) present the results.  /go see the exhibition :)

In my work I confront images and sounds in order to animate still elements of cityscape. Within concrete desert you may find deeply humane, inspiring figures; fallen former and exalted present-day gods, all very peaceful and silent, embalmed in concrete, I felt tempted to let them speak.

You may familiarize yourself with the results of my experiments and of my falling with/for the Atlantes, in Lower Gallery of BUNKIER SZTUKI, all week long except for Mondays, from 11am until 6pm. The exhibition will last until 6th of May 2012

20 Kwietnia 2012 o godz. 18 w BUNKRZE SZTUKI odbędzie się wernisaż wystawy PRZESTRZEŃ, w ramach której będzie można zobaczyć moją najnowszą prace PERMANENT.

Ekspozycja jest podsumowaniem trwających 4 dni WARSZTATÓW zorganizowanych przez Katedrę Intermediów Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie.
Warsztaty były grą, która miała sprowokować wytworzenie relacji z przestrzenią miasta i zachęcić do multimedialnych eksperymentów. 

Zadaniem uczestników było wylosowanie niedużego obszaru dla swoich działań i przeanalizowanie go pod kątem znaczących elementów, a nastpnie wejście w interakcje z wybranym fenomenem przestrzeni/ zdefiniowanie sytuacji na nowo.

W swojej pracy bazuję na interakcji obrazu z dźwiękiem, animuję nieożywione elementy miejskiego krajobrazu; betonowe figury Atlantów i ukrzyżowanego Chrystusa. 

Z efektem mojego 'spadania'- dziwnego romansu, można się zapoznać w Dolnej Galerii BUNKRA SZTUKI, codziennie z wyjątkiem poniedziałku, od 11 do 18.

panta rhei - keep me in the dark

Below works presented in Wrocław Contemporary Museum during Fairy Tale Element exhibition /TIFF festival

Presented images are a part of a larger projected, stared one year ago, and consisted of rephotographed archive family VHS recordings. The latest section of my work, presented above, goes beyond original concept of confronting the past and deals with processing memory. I'm trying to turn a documentary footage into a series of images which, by relation to elements of pop culture, symbols, archetypes and toposes incorporated by visual culture codes, would reach the common metasphere of insights and meanings.

The project consist of different parts and still is in progress.

“to keep someone in the dark” to leave someone unaware, not to tell someone about something, to keep something as a secret.

Keep me in the Dark is a photographic journey to the times of innocence. It deals with processing reminiscence of early childhood, recalling first female intuitions and is an afterthought about model of femininity imposed by culture.
It is a dark mood tale about initiation and moments of transition, accompanied by constant fears, about insights, sensing, about the ambiguity of combining the 'girlish' with the 'feminin'.
Protagonist of my photographs is in between, suspended on the edge of two different worlds where aware meets unconscious, named - unknown, individual - common.
She's ambivalent, full of contradictions, she desires both lightness and darkness, she is no longer a girl but she is not yet a women.

Prezentowane zdjęcia są częścią rozpoczętego ponad rok temu projektu, składającego się z przefotografowanych rodzinnych, archiwalnych nagrań VHS. Druga część pracy, prezentowana powyżej, wykracza po za pierwotną koncepcję konfrontacji z własną przeszłością; materiał dokumentalny zostaje przekształcony w obrazy, które poprzez skojarzenie z elementami popkultury, wizualnymi kodami kulturowymi i kryjącymi się za nimi symbolami, archetypami i topsami, działają w obszarze wspólnych intuicji i znaczeń. Projekt jest w trakcie realizacji. 

"to keep something/someone in the dark" - zachować coś w tajemnicy, utrzymywać kogoś w nieświadomości.

Keep me in the dark jest fotograficzną podróżą w czasie, do okresu "niewinności";  przetwarzaniem pamięci i procesowaniem wspomnień, przywołaniem pierwszych kobiecych intuicji i refleksją na temat narzuconych przez kulturę modi kobiecości. 

Jest przypowieścią o inicjacji i momentach przejścia, towarzyszących im lękach, przeczuwaniu, dwuznacznościach połączenia dziewczęcości z kobiecością. 

Bohaterka fotografii funkcjonuje na pograniczu dwóch światów - pomiędzy tym, co uświadomione i nieświadome, nazwane i nienazwane, indywidualne i wspólne.
Jest ambiwalentna, pragnienie równocześnie światła i ciemności, już nie jest dziewczynką i jeszcze nie jest kobietą.
